Narnia

It's been a while since I've read fiction. Normally I read books about design, art, or christianity or more technical books about computers and such. I'm finding it really interesting reading fiction again. Like an annoying kid at a movie theatre I'm yelling (in my mind) at the characters telling them what to do. "What are you doing??" "Don't you remember Aslan's mission?" "It was so simple, can't you remember it?? He even told you to say it before you go to sleep, and when you get up so you won't forget it. Why aren't you listening???"
then it hits me. ouch. I do the same thing every day. what?!? I forget about my ever so simple mission. to recite it when I get up and when I lie down. to meditate on it day and night and not be distracted and lose sight of the destination.

not that we should be so heavenly minded either. I think that as a church we have forgotten that God made us to enjoy life in His name. not to just say that, but to actually have fun! read numbers 14 if you get the chance. God actually calls us to have fun in his name. seriously.

I had so much fun at church (morning and night :P ) yesterday... and singing!!!

Doh, the stuff that makes a twinkie,
Ray, the guy who makes the twinkies,
Me, the one I buy them for,
Fah, a long, long, way to the twinkie store,
Soh, I'll have another twinkie,
Lah, la la la la la twinkie!!,
Tea? no thanks! I'll have a twinkie
And that brings us back to doh, twinkie! twinkie! twinkie!!

Pretty good day so far at work. my boss is on vacation this week so I get the whole office to myself. Although there has already been some confusion about a certain print job. I'm sure it will all work out.

I got an email from a designer saying that my prof had recommended me to do some freelance work from him! I'm stoked. Lou Ceccato actually recommended me to one of his colleagues. For those of you who don't know, Lou Ceccato is this amazing italian designer and a prof of mine last semestre. He's done work for sportchek, the beer store, sobey's and a whole bunch of packaging including the new nature valley granola bars. Definitely one of my favourite profs here at ocad. and he chose to recommended me? whoa.

I can't wait to hear about the project. This would be the first time that I'd be doing real work for a real senior designer. That could be a major asset.

ever get the feeling that you're falling?

silkscreened myself a hoodie saturday. I'll have to post a pic.

McDull

such a funny movie. Cil is quite right, very philosophical. Although it is pretty weird in parts, but the restaurant scene at the end is hilarious, and the 3d city was pretty unbelievable too.
Had some chinese buns for the first time yesterday. bbq pork and spam. They are very round and puffed up with air, very tasty.

speaking of chinese, walking to work I see a bunch of old chinese people doing tai-chi in the grange park every morning. I really want to join in. I don't know tai-chi at all, but it looks surprising easy. easier then vbs action songs anyways. So my plan is to join them one of these mornings.  what if they talk to me you might ask. well..... I've been thinking about that too. so here is my list of random comments to say if anyone begins to talk to me in chinese.

6. I am a japanese car.
5. uncoooked riiiiice!!!!
4. back off, get your own sandwich (i-yah!)
3. do you think I'm pretty?
2. don't rock the boat.

and the number one thing to say if people disturb me in the middle of tai-chi.
1. waaaaaaah....

I finished the third book in the narnia series on the subway last night. I'll have to agree dano, The Dawn Treader is a good one. Although I haven't read A Horse and his Boy yet, so it's hard to compare. CS Lewis has put a lot of cool allegory into these books, There is one scene in Prince Caspian that has really stuck out in my mind. Lucy is back in Narnia a year or two after her first visit, and she sees Aslan again. (Aslan is the Jesus/God character in these books) And she remarks how Aslan has grown much bigger then the last time she saw him. He replies "That is because you are older, little one". "Not because you are?" asks Lucy. " I am not" spoke Aslan "But every year you grow, you will find me bigger"
How true is that?

I should really be reading more though, my original plan was to have the series done by the time school started. And I'm only halfway through. I'm a bit of a slow reader. I'm so excited that the movie is coming out this year too. I normally see the movie first and then read the book after. Not this time. puhahahaha

still wondering who the magician is. I thought he was God. but the whole dufflepud thing is confusing me. wait, isn't God the Emperor. Who's the magician. Is he moses? maybe I'm reading into it too much.

think I might do some screenprinting today.

Cell Phone

no. I didn't go out and buy a cell phone (or reactivate the one I currently have for that matter) But I've had this funny Riley Armstrong song going through my head (always something crazy playing on mike-radio) all week. I could probably write it down without looking up the words, it's pretty short. here it is.

Cell Phone

I put my cell phone in the wash-ing, mach-ine
and I don't think it's ever going to ring, a-gain
It's been lost, it's been dropped; It's never drowned before,
and I hate the thought of going back to that cell phone store.

I put my cell phone in the wash-ing, mach-ine
and this accident's going to cost me, cha-ching
would it help it out if I put in the dryer,
or would the microwave work better? would it just catch on fire?

So if it sounds like I'm talking underwater,
may I remind you always check your pockets,
cause when my cell phone's waterlogged it won't anymore,
but it's clean, oh it's clean... it's clean!

I left it on the counter for three whole days,
I left it sitting on the counter when I went away
And when I got back home I put the battery back on,
crossed my fingers, held my breath and pressed the power on.
and to my surprise it lit up just fine.
underwater half an hour—and it still had the right time!

my cell phone, my cell phone, my cell phone my cell phone.......

So if it sounds like I'm talking underwater,
may I remind you always check your pockets,
cause when my cell phone's waterlogged it won't anymore,
but it's clean, oh it's clean... it's clean!

Ok, that took a while, I actually did have to type it out. That's ok, it was fun. His cd's are very practical. this one shows you how to rescue a waterlogged cell phone, and his last cd had a recipe for banana bread.

So I only have one week of work left. one week of august left too. It will feel kind of strange not working at ocad. I've been working in the computer labs ever since about the first week of school. I've come to know a lot of people. been asked a lot of strange questions, and learned more about computers then I ever though possible in three short years. It's been fun. Having said that, I'm getting really excited about my final year of school. The extra time I gain from not working I can use towards my projects and church.

People keep asking me my schedule for the fall, but it keeps slipping my mind. Maybe I'll remember better if I type it up here.

Monday 12:00—2:50 History of GD
Tuesday 6:30—9:20 Concept w/ Keith
Wednesday 3:15—6:05 Type w/ Keith !!!
Thursday 6:30—9:20 Production
Friday 3:15—6:05 Editorial

I forget whom I have for editorial but I remember he came highly recommended.

Been praying about people in my life that God has placed so I can make a difference in their lives. I don't know who or how yet, but people I can get to know better and pour into their life. Tell them the story of how they were was made in God's image to have a relationship with God. I actually want to tell people. not cram christianity down their throats, but let them know that God made us to enjoy life, to enjoy the sun, the rain, birds chirping, to find joy in the world around them, and to truly know love when all that is around them doesn't make sense. To enjoy a cold drink, a warm cup of tea, and not have to worry about what they will wear or when they will get their next meal. or what that meal will be. But most of all to enjoy the relationship with God we were all custom made for. To let people know that though we live in a fallen world, and of that there are consequences, that God's plan for loving community with Him and the people around us hasn't changed a bit.

how do I tell them? will anybody listen? Lord, teach me how to tell your story.

Old Hymns and Type

hello world.

I love old hymns, modern worship music is cool and all, but they don't begin to compare with the depth of most hymns.

Come thou fount.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

In the second verse there is a reference to Ebenezer. This is a reference to Samuel. Samuel took a stone and he named it Ebenezer, saying "Thus far has the Lord helped us." 1 Samuel 7:12

and by the way, fount is an old english word for font. so yes this blog's title both references hymns and type. how fun!
